What is reflection? and Why do we need regular reflection?

Tonight, we had an English Agile Discussion – and yes, we challenged ourselves by diving deep into Retrospectives in English! 😆 In this conversation, we explored some interesting questions:

What is reflection?

Reflection is the process of stepping back to review past actions, identifying what went well, what didn’t, and how things can be improved. It is not about judgment but rather about gaining awareness and insights. Reflection helps individuals and teams understand their behaviors, decision-making processes, and interactions, allowing them to make better choices moving forward. Unlike retrospectives, which are often associated with Agile and Scrum, reflection is a broader concept that applies to personal growth and continuous improvement in all aspects of life.

Why do we need regular reflection?

Regular reflection allows us to adapt to changes, refine our actions, and improve continuously. By shortening the feedback loop—whether daily, weekly, or monthly—we can make small adjustments more frequently rather than waiting for a major review. This process helps prevent stagnation, enhances learning, and ensures that we stay aligned with our goals. In teams, frequent retrospectives provide opportunities for improvement, while on a personal level, regular reflection fosters self-awareness and growth.
